Packaging of your koi.

All of our koi are double bagged and placed in sturdy Styrofoam shipping boxes to minimize temperature fluctuations during shipment. The Styrofoam box is then sealed into a cardboard outer carton to further ensure the safety of your koi. Box charges are $10.00 per box.

Shipping of your koi.

Most koi shipments are effected by air from Seatac airport in Seattle Washington. The average cost for shipping a box of koi within the continental United States via major airline is $75.00. FedEx and UPS shipments are available upon request with an average shipping cost of around $130.00 per box delivered to your door.

We usually ship 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)... koi shipments are packaged in the late afternoon and shipped overnight for morning arrival at their destination. Pick-up of airline shipments is usually done at the airlines cargo facility located near your airport.

Receiving your shipment of koi.

Every koi that you have received was hand selected by Pan Intercorp from some of Japans top koi breeding facilities. These facilities are managed and maintained to optimize the health of your new koi. At our facilities both in Japan and the United States, we follow these same stringent health management and maintenance protocols to further ensure the health of your koi. Prior to shipment, each koi is properly purged and packed with great care. Because of the steps taken before shipping, your koi will have arrived in good condition. Pan Intercorp guarantees Live Arrival of all of our koi, provided they are picked up and released into their new home within three hours after reaching their destination. Once the koi have been removed from the water they were shipped in and introduced to their new environment they become the responsibility of the buyer.

To further ensure that the health of your koi is maintained properly, we recommend that you follow these acclimation steps upon the arrival of your new koi:

  • Always quarantine your new koi!
  • Prepare a separate quarantine facility to hold your new koi. Be sure to supply adequate filtration/aeration to accomodate the number of koi introduced to the quarantine system.
  • Do not mix your newly received koi with koi from any other source.
  • Assure that the parameters of the quarantine system that the koi are going into are acceptable (e.g. Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH, Alkalinity, Hardness, Zero Chlorine, Oxygen levels, Etc.).
  • We recommend that your holding tanks be pre-salted to a concentration of 0.4% before releasing your new koi. (0.4% = 3.3 Pounds per 100 US Gallons of water).
  • Aim to keep the water temperature at a minimum of 60 degrees F.
  • Float the bags of koi on the ponds for approximately 30 minutes to allow for the temperature in the bags to adjust.
  • Gently remove the koi from the bag with a net/sock net, and place them in to your ponds.
  • Please cover each of the holding tanks completely. Koi tend to jump often after being moved into new environments.
  • Please do not feed your new koi for at least 24 hours.
  • After allowing the koi to settle in...carefully examine their condition.
  • Contact our office immediately if you have any questions or concerns about your new koi.

By following these steps you will ensure that your new koi will continue to thrive. We hope that the information provided above will help you acclimate your new koi successfully. Please feel free to call us at 1-800-827-5819 with any questions regarding the care of your koi.
